Create a Group Set (e.g. 'Classes') and individual Groups (e.g 'Blue Class")

You can organise your Learners into Groups to make it easier to locate and work with them in Evidence for Learning. You can create Groups for anything - classes, year groups, curriculum pathways, intervention groups, etc...

There are 2 types of Group that you can use:

(1) General Group: General Groups have no restrictions on how you add learners to them. A Learner can be a member of multiple General Groups.

(2) Group within a Group Set: Groups within a Group Set are a special type of group that have a useful restriction - these Groups are mutually exclusive within Group Set. I.e. A Learner can only be a member of ONE group within any Group Set. We recommend that you create a Group Set for your Classes and another for your Year Groups.

This guide covers Group Sets. It walks you through a step by step guide to creating a Group Set and then adding mutually exclusive Groups where Learners can only be in one Group within that Group set. We recommend that you use these for Classes, Year Groups, Key Stages, Curriculum Pathways, etc....

If you would like to see the process for adding groups that are not mutually exclusive (i.e. General Groups), please see : "Add Learners to a General Group (that is not mutually exclusive with other Groups)".

Here are the steps to create a Group Set and Groups within the Group Set (i.e Create a Group Set called "Classes" and then a Group for each class)

On a Computer, go to https://console.evidenceforlearning.net and login

1.    Click on  Groups (left side)

2.    Select Group Sets (top right above create new group)

3.    Click Create Enter the name of the group and Click Create

Example:         If you have 10 classes and wanted to create class Groups in Evidence for Learning where Learners can only be in one class, you could create a Group Set called "Classes" and then a Group for each "Class" within the Group Set. This will ensure that any Learner can only be in ONE class.

4.    Click Edit (to the right of the name of your new Group Set)

5.    You now need to create the Groups within the Group Set, click Create a Group

6.    Enter the name of the Group and click Create

Example:         To carry on with the above Example. You could now name one of your Groups: "Class 1"

7.    Repeat the Process to add all the Groups within the Group Set, you again start by clicking Create a Group

Once you've created all your Groups within your Group Set, you can add Learners to each particular Group within that Group Set.

Alternatively, you may have created all the groups that you would like to at this stage and want to start to look at and think about how Evidence for Learning can help you to get the best out of using Frameworks: "Introduction to Frameworks".
